Blackpool Illuminations

In 2020, the Lights will be shining from 4 September 2020- 3 January 2021.

The world-famous Illuminations need little introduction. There are six miles of traditional festoons and tableaux along the Promenade, illuminated tram tours every evening and the return of the popular Lightpool Festival during October half-term - no wonder it’s commonly known as the greatest free light show on Earth!

This year, for the first time ever, Blackpool’s annual Illuminations display is to be extended by TWO months to provide an invaluable boost to the resort’s tourism season.

To help with social-distancing, a one-way system will be in place at busy times for those walking through the illuminated tableaux section at North Shore. To do this, head to Red Bank Road (at the end of the lights) and walk north to south. Happy viewing!

JORVIK Fearsome Craftsmen

Fearsome Craftsmen, A touring exhibition from the JORVIK Group of attractions.

Discover the Artistry of the Viking World

Vikings made ordinary things to serve their everyday needs but they decorated them with designs which reveal the true spirit of the Viking Age. This exhibition allows you to discover how these Fearsome Craftsmen working over 1,000 years ago turned simple materials into complex objects.

In this exhibition, you can see how Vikings made everything they needed from natural materials. Antler, bone and horn could be turned into combs, knife handles and jewellery. Wood was vital for everything from houses and furniture to spoons and bowls. Leather from animal hides made shoes, belts and scabbards. Smiths turned ores into iron, lead and copper. Potters made clay into pottery. Dyed and woven wool was transformed into colourful cloth.

Journey through time and discover the lesser-known side of the Vikings. Explore the items they created from materials such as bone, antler and metal, and experience their everyday life with our replica house interior and market stalls.
